Emilie and Heartbreak House

Today's Lacquer: Emilie by Julep
Today's Literature: Heartbreak House by George Bernard Shaw

Man, I really don't like George Bernard Shaw very much. I'm reading HBH for school, and I'm so sick of his heavyhanded didacticism. Nothing super interesting to say about the literature, so on to the lacquer!
Rawr. I didn't expect to love this color, but I do. It's super pretty, applies like a dream, and is striking enough to draw tons of complements without being flashy.

Fenchurch Street and Visible Man

Today's Laquer: Fenchurch Street by Nails, Inc.
Today's Literature: The Visible Man by Chuck Kloysterman

I wish I could say I was enjoying The Visible Man, but I'm just not. I've enjoyed some of Kloysterman's other works, but this one just isn't cutting it. Oh well.

On the other hand, I'm loving this polish shade! A creamy warm caramel brown, Fenchurch Street is everything I want in a fall polish- seasonal without being either gloomy or halloweeny. It applied pretty easily- I'm wearing three coats there, but I wouldn't have needed the third if I hadn't messed up my application. I have a feeling that Fenchurch is going to be one of my go-to shades for fall.

Snuff and Echo Park

Today's Lacquer: Echo Park by American Apparel
Today's Literature: Snuff by Terry Pratchett

I just finished Snuff by Terry Pratchett last night, and while I enjoyed it very much, it just didn't live up to the hilarity and insight that I have come to expect from the Diskworld series. I've spent half a lifetime visiting the incredible world on the backs of the elephants on top of t
he turtle, and I've been in love with Ankh Morpork since I first picked up The Truth what must be a decade ago. I can't tell if I'm different now or if Terry Pratchett is, and both options make me incredibly sad. Diskworld was in many ways my Harry Potter. My paperbacks, battered and worn with many readings, came with me when I went to college despite the lack of shelf space, and the copy of Small Gods I managed to get signed is one of my favorite treasured. I grew up with Agatha and Carrot instead of Hermione and Nevile, and I can't say I regret it in the slightest.

And after that somewhat somber note, on to today's nails!

I picked up Echo Park at the same time as Lopez Canyon, and I'm quite pleased with the result. Lopez Canyon is a medium grey with slightly blue undertones that are more apparent in certain lights. I think this is an awesome shade for fall, and I was so taken with it that I wore it for four days straight. It's a remarkably hardy polish- even without a top coat the polish held up without chipping until the morning of day five.

All in all, I recommend American Apparel polishes and Echo Park in particular.

American Apparel Lopez Canyon

The entire reason I planted my flag down on this little corner of internet real estate is American Apparel's Lopez Canyon. I've been on a hunt for the perfect fall/winter orange, and I couldn't find a single swatch of Lopez Canyon anywhere on the entire internet. So, if you're jonesing for Lopez Canyon (and I can't imagine how you'd be here otherwise), here's what I found.

Not orange. Instead of the orangey-brown brick shade of the bottle, I got a orange-leaning red. It's a pretty color, but it's not very me at all. The formula is really nice, though- applies cleanly and easily
